Environmental protection is non-negotiable.

Our planet is facing serious environmental challenges: it is warming at an ever-increasing rate, important resources are becoming scarce, countless animal and plant species are disappearing every year, and ecosystems that have for thousands of years had a stabilising role are actively being destroyed.

An intact environment is fundamental to our economic future as a company – from the extraction of raw materials all over the world to our employees locally.

We can influence these trends. At the same time, for decades we have helped to drive these negative effects and we are still partially responsible for them. We strive to make our business activities as eco-friendly as possible to protect the livelihoods and economic well-being of each and every one of us.

Im Fokus unseres Engagements:

Climate change

Climate change

We have been taking active steps to combat climate change since 2006. Find out more!

Water

Water

Because of the coffee and cotton we grow and the products we manufacture, we are partially responsible for water pollution and water scarcity. Sustainable water management is therefore a crucial part of both our sustainability strategy and our business strategy. Find out more!

Biodiversity

Biodiversity

We are witnessing biodiversity loss at the beginning of our supply chains in particular, in those countries where the raw materials for our products are grown and produced. It is in exactly these areas that we are working to preserve biodiversity and protect ecosystems. Find out more!

Circular economy

Circular economy

In 2014, we reinforced this goal by signing the Greenpeace Closed Loop Commitment. By signing this agreement, we have pledged to develop products that conserve resources. Find out more!

2021

Milestones

Carbon footprint calculations updated

Climate targets for 2030 adopted to help limit global warming to 1.5 degrees

Wet-processing factories identified for 95% of our textile products

In addition to textile products, hard goods products were also made from recycled materials, such as dishwashing brushes.

Goals

Halve our CO₂ emissions by 2030

Transition our vehicle fleet to electric vehicles by 2030

Increase energy efficiency in our roasting facilities by 1.5% each year by 2030

Convert all remaining overseas facilities to 100% renewable energy from 2025

Effective environmental protection is achieved through cooperation

That is why:

  • we are working towards eliminating hazardous chemicals with the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) initiative.

  • we have signed up to the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action to reduce emissions in textile factories.

  • we have joined forces with WWF and other companies to find solutions for particularly at-risk river basins.

  • we have joined forces with other companies to champion biodiversity through Biodiversity in Good Company and Textile Exchange.

  • we support research and development projects dedicated to sustainable coffee farming, in areas such as irrigation and sustainable crop protection.
